Cross-Court Running Drills

I ran across the court

Focusing solely on moving forward fast

Back and forth, and past my previous footsteps

Over time, I ended back where I began

But felt different from before

Out of breath, heart pounding

Amazed for some reason I don’t want to know.

I’m good at sprinting, giving my all repeatedly with intervals of time occupied by pants, breaths, hard heartbeats, feelings of feeling defeated, feels of accomplishment; and this has been embodied in the language I’ve used in emails. I’m thinking that I should embody the spirit of a long-distance–maybe marathon–runner as I write emails within certain realms of work; someone who is devoted to finishing the race, maybe even winning the race; and who knows that, sometimes, it’s wisest to disregard all that surrounds you, and to put all your energy and attention into controlling your breath.
