A Take on Volleyball Receives in the Grand Order

Your

Life is one big receive

The opponent is some entity

that is way out of your league

You, and every single other person–

living now, who once lived,

and who will live–

have one chance to keep the ball in play.

I used to think that

Balls have come my way

And they have been such hard hits;

world hunger

immigration

incarceration

social inequality

human rights

diversity, equity, and inclusion,

“more than diversity”

rising homicide rates

rising suicide rates

mental health, depression

schizophrenia, biopolar disorder

disabilities, people with disabilities in-need of accommodation

(should we move away from seeing people of certain dispositions as “disabled” and “in-need of accommodation?”)

accessibility;

dynamic, transforming, and multiple

Each hit is. I’ve thought that I’ve failed to receive some of these hits, and that I have no choice but to look towards receiving the ball that next comes my way.

But no. I haven’t failed at a single receive yet.

So far, the ball is coming my way; it’s coming at a speed so fast that I can’t tell if it’s in my court or not, yet, right now; and I just gotta watch the ball, prepare my platform, and have faith in myself.

I may not know who we’re playing

against

But I’m not going to be someone who lets the

ball drop on our side of the court.
